“It’s 1985. New York City is totally polarized. Rich, poor, black, white. The crack epidemic is just beginning. The murder rate is rising. It was a grand and glorious time to be in the tabloid business.”
So writes the beloved Nora Ephron in Lucky Guy

In a stunningly-successful run, Lucky Guy played to sold-out houses in the spring and summer of 2013 as theatergoers came to honor the playwright’s memory.  Starring two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks in his Broadway debut, the play is sadly Ephron’s final work, but also marks a return to her journalistic roots as she tackles the story of controversial 1980s tabloid reporter Mike McAlary.  Lucky Guy is as much about McAlary’s life as a reporter as it is about the life — messy, sensational, heroic, gritty, “grand and glorious” — of the city itself.  It is also a love letter to the lost world of journalism and the days when getting the story was like getting the golden ticket.
